New Zealand is a nation of islands in the southwest of the Pacific Ocean. It consists of more than 700 smaller islands in addition to its two mainland islands, the North and South Islands. Glaciers, fiords, mountains, plains, subtropical forests, volcanic plateaus, and miles of coastline all characterize the nation's topography.
It was the first nation to grant voting rights to all adult
women. In New Zealand, there are at least ten sheep for every person, making
livestock an important industry. Kiwi, a native bird of the nation, is also a
colloquial term for New Zealanders.
