The Netherlands Antilles were a former group of Caribbean islands that were part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It existed from 1954 to 2010 and included several islands in the Caribbean Sea. The Netherlands Antilles was dissolved in 2010, and its islands were reorganized into various separate territories.
In 2010, the Netherlands Antilles was formally dissolved. The decision was part of a process to decentralise the islands' administration. The Netherlands Antilles were an autonomous part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with a governor appointed by the Dutch monarch.
